Student Life

at Selma

Weekly
Assembly

Every Wednesday is Spirit Day at Selma. Students are encouraged to wear their Larchmont green to the morning assembly, the all-school gathering where students are engaged in fun community games & activities, hear student-led presentations and watch exciting performances. The student-led emcee and tech teams help plan and facilitate each assembly. Guest speakers and presenters like renowned author Stuart Gibbs (Spy School), professional music performances and the Science Robotics Team from Marlborough School have been known to visit.

Field Trips

The curriculum and instruction at Larchmont Charter School is based on the theory of constructivism. Integrated, action-based learning is one of the primary approaches to offering a constructivist learning environment. Taking students out of the classroom to explore their environment assists in delivering curriculum through diverse means and providing opportunities for them to make meaningful and personal connections to the content. Field trips are a critical element of our curriculum in that they allow young people to explore the world around them, learn in unique environments, encounter new ideas and concepts, and engage in the greater Los Angeles Community.

Events

Every year Larchmont at Selma hosts several family gatherings that strengthen the community and showcase students' work. The Winter Breakfast, Spring Carnival and Year Book Live are exciting events filled with musical performances, poetry and storytelling, and vibrant student art. In addition to the plentiful potluck buffet at the Winter Breakfast, the Edible School Yard team provides refreshing food samples learned in the classroom and food truck vendors round out the delicious meals from cultures around the world.
