WEEKLY MESSAGE | 10.31.20
Hi all,
I hope you’re well. I found myself getting a little emotional seeing our Dia de los Muertos activities and watching our Halloween assemblies and in person events this week – awed and inspired by the strength of our community. It’s a reminder of how thirsty I think many of us for time together and for laughter and joy. Wishing your family a happy Halloween and Dia de los Muertos if you celebrate.
Writing with a couple of requests and a few updates:
Thank you so much for all you do.
Warmly,
Amy
REMINDER TO VOTE! When it comes to the quality of our school and your child’s education, the locally elected LAUSD Board Members make some big decisions that impact charter schools like ours. So, please keep education top of mind when you vote!
ANNUAL GIVING DRIVE – we’re in the home stretch – let’s do this. Every donation makes a difference and many hands make light work. The drive is Larchmont’s biggest fundraiser and this year it’s our only major fundraiser this year because of the pandemic. We know this time is impacting families differently – thank you for stretching to invest generously in Larchmont.

REOPENING UPDATE – the COVID stats nationally and locally continue to trend in the wrong direction with the LA County positivity rate moving from 3.4% to 3.7% and the cases per 100,000 increasing from 7.6 to 8 in the last week. L.A. remains in the Purple Tier for widespread transmission – the most severe and restrictive tier. We are meeting with staff groups to continue and deepen the planning and readiness for reopening so we’re ready once it’s safe to do so. We’ll continue to update you on the public health landscape and our plans.

ANTI-BIAS ANTI-RACIST EDUCTION (ABAR) – Our school-wide focus this year is on Anti-Bias Anti-Racist educational and institutional practices focusing on academics, parent engagement and recruitment of students and staff. This past week our teachers across multiple campuses participated in powerful professional development aligning on this work and exploring how our curriculum incorporates the goals and standards of anti-bias education.
Thank you so much for participating in conferences and giving us important feedback via the parent survey. We’ll be sharing out the results of that next week. We’re analyzing the data and it will inform the work ahead. We’re particularly focused on students who are struggling in distance learning and looking at what more we can do to support them.
Thanks so much for all you do to make our school strong.
With Gratitude,
Amy
