Dear Hollygrove Families,

We want to share a few words of thanks and appreciation to our very special Hollygrove community. As we head into this much needed break, we want to turn our attention to everything for which we have at LCS to be grateful.

First, we thank our incredible staff and teachers for creating such a nurturing and enriching environment. The Hollygrove team is truly exceptional and we are grateful to work among such dedicated and talented professionals. Next, Hollygrove parents and caregivers, you are also amazing and deserve a huge bucket full of thanks. We know it is challenging to balance all of the demands of this current situation and we are grateful for your effort and partnership. Finally, to our students, thank you for bringing your heart to class each and every day. You bring us all such joy and give the adults in this community deep purpose. Again, thank you all for making our school community so unique and special!

As you move into the week ahead, we hope you have time to connect with those who are important to you and that you have a moment to reflect on the wonderful aspects of your lives. We wish you all a healthy and happy Thanksgiving holiday and we'll see you back on Zoom on Monday, November 30th.

Much gratitude,

Alissa & Eva hgrprincipal@larchmontcharter.org

Hollygrove Stakeholder Survey Results

Throughout October, all families, staff members, and students in grades 2-4 had an opportunity to complete the first School Satisfaction Survey for the 2020/21 school year.

We are happy to share that the results of the Fall survey for the Larchmont Charter Hollygrove campus are very strong. We are very pleased to see that we've maintained high satisfaction rates across all metrics amongst parents, students, and staff. We wanted to share a bit more about our highest and lowest rated prompts from each stakeholder group, as well as how this year trends from last year's survey results.

Here is an overview of our LCS Hollygrove results:

This school satisfaction survey also asked for input on the strengths, challenges, and suggestions for improvement for our current distance learning program. Key trends and through lines of strengths and challenges/suggestions of our distance learning program were as follows:

  • Respect & Strong Classroom Communities

  • Understanding, Patience, Flexibility, & Care of Staff in working with Kids and Families

  • Schedule is consistent & well communicated

  • Well organized teacher websites

  • Teachers are engaging and making learning fun

  • Opportunities for live enrichment classes

  • Small group and 1:1 support from our LCS staff

  • Home kits are helpful

  • High attendance and increased student engagement

  • Students & Staff are becoming more familiar with navigating the schedules, routines, and online tools

Suggestions for Improvement:

  • More small group and individualized student support opportunities

  • More social opportunities for students

  • Differentiated instruction and assignments

  • Better technology resources and support

  • More opportunities for projects & interactive learning

  • Rethinking our school's reopening plan

From reading through all the feedback, we saw how much of our distance learning program is going well. We are amazed with how caring, responsive, and talented our teachers and staff have been to supporting and communicating with our students and their families. Our students are adapting to this reality and making the best of it. Adjusting to distance learning wasn't easy, but we have done so collectively and we are proud of what we have been able to offer and achieve.

We will continue to work on looking for more opportunities for our students to connect socially and interact with each other in child-directed ways. We'll also continue to explore how to best use our instructional support team to support students while thinking about differentiation and social-emotional needs of the students. Finally, there is much work to be done regarding our plan for eventual reopening. We have heard the parent feedback and are working on creating more opportunities for parents to participate in reopening conversations and planning.

LCS Hollygrove Site Council Notes

At our November Site Council meeting, we reviewed our most recent stakeholder survey results that are shared above. If you have any questions about our school satisfaction results, please feel free to reach out to us (hgrprincipal@larchmontcharter.org) or your site council representative.

The rest of our meeting we discussed the issue that is at the top of many minds- school reopening. The site council representatives at every grade level had brought questions, concerns, and hopes for LCS reopening. There are many ideas and opinions on the table and our path to reopening is complex! On December 3rd we will have an all school site council meeting to continue to discuss reopening. Since the conversations around reopening and our school satisfaction results took up the bulk of our time- we tabled some of the other topics until a later conversation.

As a reminder, all siblings not currently enrolled at Larchmont Charter who wish to attend must complete a lottery form for the 2021/22 school year - this applies to all grades and all campuses.  Lottery forms must be completed and submitted by 5:00 pm February 17, 2021.  The lottery form is available on line at www.larchmontcharter.org.

Scholar's Circle strives to lessen the financial burden on LCS families while providing students with resources to succeed. Larchmont students will receive a sense of safety, support, and build strong relationships from the comfort of their homes.

We know the stress of the time has proven to be challenging for many of our students and their families. Please note that this counseling opportunity is for students who attend Hollygrove, only.
