Learning all about fall in Kindergarten!

FROM YOUR SCHOOL LEADERS

Hello Hollygrove Grownups,

Fall is upon us—CA style, of course. Hard to believe it’s already October! Hollygrove teachers have almost completed beginning of the year assessments and are starting to prepare for upcoming Parent Teacher conferences. We’ll have more information out soon regarding conference sign-ups!

We also want to remind you that our Annual Giving Drive is in full swing. Hollygrove is very proud of our historically high participation rates and we know we'll continue with that tradition. Regardless of how much each family donates, we all know that we are in this together. Our community is strong and remains strong year after year because we rely on the generosity and commitment of our amazing families. We fully realize these are hard times for many of our families, but we only ask for people to give what is meaningful and manageable for them. Hollygrove is planning for 100% mark this year --at which point we can all share in community pride knowing that each and every single family on our campus supported, no matter how large or small, the educational program of our kids.

Please join us in making your pledge for the 2020-21 school year today. Thank you in advance for all of your support and generosity! LARCHMONT ANNUAL GIVING DRIVE Have a wonderful weekend! Alissa & Eva hgrprincipal@larchmontcharter.org

Please see the message below from our LOOP Co-Chairs, Jason and Jessica:

Hi All,

Thanks so much to everyone who joined us for the first LOOP meeting. Here's a brief recap of what we are looking for in terms of parent involvement to help Hollygrove out in this weird strange year. Any takers for any of the positions below please please email lcs.hgr.loop@gmail.com and cc: jason@jasondaleykennedy.com and put the title of the volunteer work you'd like to do as the SUBJECT line. Here are the needs:

Social Media Coordinator  - last year, we set up the Loop Group Hollygrove Facebook and Instagram pages. We are a bit swamped this year, and would love someone with a bit of knowledge in this area to post important updates, information, needs, etc. with our community.

World Fair - we are about to launch the back-end of this years World Fair which is the DIGITAL PASSPORT TO THE WORLD:

  • Design: Megan Keane and DJ Hauck are going to help us out with drawing and graphic design

  • Copy: It would be great to have someone to help with copywriting for the:

-family invite to participate

-site copy

-advertisements for families to "sell" the passport to their friends and families

  • Translation: the site will be translated automatically, but we will want some help with proofing the translation and in communications in advance of the site launch

-Korean

-Russian

-Spanish

-Farsi

NOTE: If you are fluent in any other languages and are willing to offer translation please let us know!

  • Tech Support: The site will be built by a company but in order to keep costs down, it would be helpful to have a team of volunteers who can upload information into the templates. Anyone familiar with WordPress is encouraged to throw in some time to this ask!

Teacher Appreciation: For this one, please contact Alice Park! Her email is aliceparkgeorge@gmail.com

LAUSD Advocacy Rep: We are looking for a Hollygrove LAUSD Advocacy Rep. This person will work with other campus reps to :

  • disseminate information on the school board elections

  • how to get the vote out for pro-charter candidates

  • important COVID-related LAUSD mandates and more

For anyone who wants to volunteer, in addition to emailing the addresses above, please be sure to fill out the volunteer form posted on the website, right here. Also, please be sure to complete the Volunteer packet as well posted right here. Thanks! Jason & Jessica

ELAC MEETING RECAP

We held our first ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) meeting of the year this past Thursday. Hollygrove's ELD Coordinator, Danielle Kelly, shared all about the upcoming English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) testing. The ELPAC test is used to measure how well students in kindergarten through twelfth grade understand English when it is not their primary language. For those of you who missed this meeting and would like the information, please be sure to see the presentations listed below.

HOLLYGROVE ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

Teachers will be taking attendance every day in their live Zoom classes. On Wednesdays, the completed independent work will indicate that your child is present asynchronously and your child will be marked present accordingly. If your child is going to be absent (both synchronously and asynchronously) for any reason, please email your teacher and attendancehgr@larchmontcharter.org.

To receive credit for attending asynchronously (not live/zoom) students/parents must both:

  • Log into Seesaw or view the teacher's assignments via their websites to access and complete assignments AND

  • Complete the Distance Learning Attendance Certification Form

  • Please notify your teacher & email attendancehgr@larchmontcharter.org when you know your student cannot attend synchronously or asynchronously.

Questions about attendance?  Email our office manager, Solace, at solace@larchmontcharter.org.

HOLLYGROVE FRIDAY PARENT COFFEE

Please join us for our next Parent Coffee on Friday, October 9th, 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Hollygrove Parent and NPR reporter, Nina Gregory, will lead us all in a discussion regarding safe news consumption for kids-- quite a timely topic. So, grab a cup of coffee and join us on zoom for for some learning and adult connection.

Nina Gregory is a senior editor for NPR's Arts Desk, where she oversees coverage of film across the network and edits and and assigns stories on television, art, design, fashion, food, and culture.
