My name is Sofia Potik and i am so excited to start my first year teaching at LCS. I grew up in West Los Angeles and still get together with friends from Kindergarten. I went to UCLA and received my B.A in History. My focus was mainly on U.S. history and African American history. If your child is my student, he or she will definitely learn the 8 clap!! I live in Culver City with my husband and our two dogs, Bob and Fred. I love reading , binge watching great shows, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends and family.
Where did you go to school and what was your major?
What is your highest degree held?
B.A. History, UCLA
Why did you want to be a teacher/work in education?
To me, teaching is the most important job in the world-after being a parent, of course! I genuinely enjoy working with young people to help them learn. It is so fun to see them make connections between what they are learning and the outside world. And, fifth graders are my favorite people!!!
How long have you been teaching/working in education?
I have been a 5th grade teacher for 13 years, teaching in Culver City Unified School District. I then took a long break and am starting my first year at LCS.
What is your favorite thing about LCS?
There are so many things I love love love about LCS!! I think my most favorite thing is that we (staff, parents and students), are all on the same page. We speak the same language, we all get to know each other , and the focus is on the Whole Child/Whole Human.
What was your favorite book when you were the age of your students?
I had so many favorite books when I was 10 years old! I avidly read the Little House on the Prairie series. I remember reading Charlottes Web during the summer between 4th and 5th grade and the ending made me cry!
