Why did you want to be a teacher/work in education?
I grew up loving school and thought deeply about being a teacher in High School and even received a scholarship to pursue the profession. After earning my B.A. in Art History, I started working at a museum where I was asked to teach art classes to incoming students from the local schools. It was through this teaching experience that I had the impetus to pursue a Master in Ed. and start a teaching career in Los Angeles public schools.
How long have you been teaching/working in education?
This is the start of my 11th year of teaching overall and my 8th year at Larchmont.
What is your favorite thing about LCS?
I most appreciate LCS’s commitment to a creative, experiential and project-based curriculum. LCS values a teacher’s unique style and approach to designing curriculum. I love that I can design my own units, using a wide variety of materials and resources and have the freedom to adapt the lessons according to the students interests and needs.
What was your favorite book when you were the age of your students?
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
