Classes run between January 11, 2016 - March 18, 2016
Registration deadline for Enrichment Classes is Monday, January 4, 2016.

Important reminders before you register:

PAYMENT INFORMATION

Payment for enrichment classes is due immediately upon registration. Enrichment/club class fees are NON-refundable. If a class is canceled due to weather or instructor illness, the class will be rescheduled during that trimester for a later date. If your student misses an Enrichment Class due to illness or family emergency, we are NOT able to refund any portion of your payment.

Families that qualify for the FREE lunch program are eligible for one free enrichment class (per class availability) per trimester. Any additional classes will be charged at the full price of the class.

Families that qualify for the REDUCED lunch program will be charged 10% of the cost of the enrichment class (for the first class). Any additional classes will be charged at the full price of the class.

Most clubs and classes require a minimum number of students for enrollment. If the class does not meet the minimum number of required students, you will be notified and get a FULL refund and/or can choose a different class. All classes have a limited number of spaces and scholarship spots available.

MONDAYS

Mad Science
Time:   3:30pm - 4:30pm
Dates:  01/11 to 3/14 (NO Class on 1/18 & 2/15)
Cost:    $125 (8 weeks)
Grades: (kinder - 2nd grade, ONLY)
Min and Max: (8 to 18 students)

Have fun with this captivating assortment of Mad Science classes! Blend colors together, split up the rainbow, and see why lasers are so a-maze-ing. Hunt for hidden animals and minerals as we explore our earth and the animals that inhabit it. Learn the fundamentals of flight and build your very own glider. You will be a Top Gun in no time! Finally, transform the classroom into a crime lab to collect fingerprints & other clues to learn how science is used to solve real crimes!

Fun with Food with Abbie Sterling
Time:    3:30pm - 4: 30pm
Dates:   01/11 to 03/14 (NO Class on 01/18 & 02/15)
Cost:     $125 (8 weeks)
Grades: (kinder - 3rd )
Min and Max: (8 -12 students)

Fun with food is a playful, inspiring hands on class that does everything from creating bicycles with food to making whales and other animals. We use our imagination while creating a life long interest in food that can help to encourage healthy eating habits for life. The class materials (are provided with the class fee).

Yoga for Kids with Elham T.
Time:    3:30pm - 4: 30pm
Dates:   01/11 to 03/14 (NO Class on 01/18 & 02/15)
Cost:     $120 (8 weeks)
Grades: (1st to 2nd grader, ONLY)
Min and Max: (5 - 7 students)

Children learn to become more aware of their mind, body and soul through breathing exercises and yoga poses which focus on strength and flexibility. Students will explore yoga through animal adaptations, storytelling by using their bodies, drawing, and music.

Music with Mat
Time:    3:15pm - 4:00pm
Dates:   01/11 to 03/14 (NO Class on 10/19)
Cost:     $15 (10 weeks)
Grades: (2nd to 3rd )
Min and Max: (5 -15 students)

Students will expand their knowledge and practice of musical instruments with ukeleles and guitars. Ukeles will be available for student use or students may elect to bring their own guitars or violins from home. The class will also include vocal practice with the instrumental arrangements.


TUESDAYS

Drum Circle with Malcolm Moore
Time:    3:30pm - 5:00pm (1.5 hours)
Dates:   01/12 to 03/15 (NO Class on 02/16)
Cost:     $130 (9 weeks)
Grades: (kinder to 3rd)
Min and Max: (5-20 students)

Drum circles promote communication, social skills, and musicality. Like exercise, it can be therapeutic by utilizing hand/eye coordination, listening skills, & eye contact; especially for high energy students who may benefit from artistic group activity.

During Drum Circle, students will Discover, your own rhythm first. ‐ From, playing along with a recording to building up your confidence in expressing yourself musically, you can do a lot to demonstrate your love of music and inspire the circle. Don't be self‐ conscious and don't expect to "teach" anyone anything. Remember, its about helping people discover the rhythm that's already within them! 

Zip Zap Zop Improv with Maja
Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm
Dates:   01/12 to 03/15 (NO Class on 02/16)
Cost:     $135 (9 weeks)

This improv class allows students to use their imaginations while building strong friendships! Students will develop their unique comedic voices by engaging in active storytelling, movement, and improv exercises. Parents are welcome to join the fun and observe a showcase the last day of class.

Lego: Simple Machines (Beginning) with Scott L.
Time:    3:30pm-4:30pm

(ONLY for students who have NOT taken my Lego class before!☺)….Calling all scientists and engineers! Do you like to build? Do you like to test things out? Then come join the fun using Lego kits to create models that allow you to investigate and understand how some simple and compound machines found in everyday life work. Start easy and work your way up to building things like cranes, cars, and carnival rides.

 

WEDNESDAYS

Funky Diva Dance
Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm
Dates:   01/13 to 03/16

Catch on to the latest dance craze! Learn the basic techniques of dance and how to move to the beat! We promote a healthy life-style for kids by doing fun-physical activity, and teaches kids to express themselves through music and movement. This is a performance-based class, which helps students to gain confidence and self-esteem. Learn dance routines from your favorites like Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Pitbull, classics from the past and all of your favorite radio tunes! A performance in funky costumes will be given on the last day of class to show off your new moves!

ESY Garden Club with Abby Corbett
Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm

The ESY Garden Club will offer students the opportunity to nurture and be nurtured by their school garden outside of class. Students will meet in the garden and participate in a variety of garden¬-based activities that will enhance their knowledge of gardening while also reinforcing curriculum content. Activities may include working with compost, planting seeds, garden art projects, harvesting and preparing healthy and delicious garden snacks, exploring and taking care of the worm hotel, etc.

Little Scrapbooking Artists with Cecilia W.
Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm

Join us as we spend our days working on beautiful scrapbooking projects together! Perfect for artistic kids who love to create one of a kind pieces of art that would be perfect as keepsakes, gifts, and much more. We will be busy snipping, arranging, gluing, folding, collaging, and exploring different scrapbooking techniques. This class includes fun photo days with prints that will be incorporated into various types of scrapbooking projects. Let’s get creative!

 

THURSDAYS

Enchanted Children Adventures
Time:    2:00pm - 3:00pm

Our journey begins with a trunk of dress-up. Next, we gather on the magical carpet and share who we are and what our magical powers will be. Children use their imagination to craft a fantastical world where dramatic play and improvised storytelling lead the way. It’s an on-going story, each class infused with art, kindness and wonder.

Chess with Kenton Fees
Time:    2:00pm-3:00pm
Dates:   01/14 to 03/17
Cost:     $120 (10 weeks)
Grades: (1st to 3rd)
Min and Max: (10-14 students)

Chess Mates Advanced Chess will give those students that know how to play chess an opportunity to hone their decision making and concentration skills with chess matches and varied gameplay alongside other veteran players and classmates. We will pursue a better chess game with a focus on chess concepts, tactics and strategies using puzzles, arithmetic and geometry. We will learn to read and record chess matches with algebraic notation and play through some historic matches of chess masters, past and present.

Chess is one game that everyone can play and enjoy while continuing to improve over a lifetime. The benefits of chess have shown to include mathematical development, analytical decision making, concentration, social skills and sportsmanship to name a few. Having fun while challenging ourselves and our friends with solid chess-play and hopefully instilling a lifelong love of the game is always the goal.

Fitness Club with Coach Alan
Time:    8:00 am - 8:30 am

Come and join my Fitness class on Thursday mornings and enjoy an extra PE class with me. We will play various types of games and activities that will help your child progress in PE. It’s also a great way for your child to be active and have fun before school, throughout the entire year. This is a school-wide Fitness class and the degree of difficulty will be age appropriate. Remember that all the proceeds go back to LCS, so this is a great way to let your child have fun, yet still give back to the school.


FRIDAYS

Spanish
Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm

¡Clase de español is here! What a great opportunity for beginners and fluent speaking students alike to learn, practice, or simply brush up on their Spanish skills as they grow up in our diverse and very multicultural city! In clase de español, our students will engage, play, and do hands on activities to help them learn Spanish. Through fun games, songs, and engaging activities your children will learn new Spanish vocabulary words and Spanish expressions that they will be able to use in their every day life and to communicate with Spanish speaking friends and family, neighbors, and people from our communities.
