8th Grade Spanish and Spanish 3

david.wagstaffe@larchmontcharter.org

I am David Wagstaffe and I am excited to be joining the LFP team. I am originally from California, and have made my way back after years in Illinois and Ohio. I believe that students can learn about themselves and others through the study of Spanish, and that doing so will empower them to speak someone else's "heart language." No matter where I am in the world, I always appreciate a hearty laugh, a good poem, and my amazing wife.

Where did you go to school and what was your major?
Wheaton College; Majors in Spanish and Secondary Education; Endorsements in ESL and Bilingualism.

What is your highest degree held?
BA from Wheaton College.

Why did you want to be a teacher/work in education?
I consider it a distinct privilege to be able to teach because it allows me to empower the students I have in my classroom, to develop relationships with them, and to develop Spanish as a mechanism to experience new cultures and interact with others in their "heart language."

How long have you been teaching/working in education?
This will be my second year working full time in education.

What is your favorite thing about LCS?
The belief that diversity inherently strengthens a community, and that unity in a school body does not imply uniformity.

What was your favorite book when you were the age of your students?
My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok.
