Community
At Larchmont Charter School, family involvement is a cornerstone to our ongoing success. Much of what brings our community together is a shared desire to actively support our children's education. Each family commits to providing 50 hours of volunteer work on behalf of the school, and there are countless ways to fulfill this commitment. Volunteer opportunities exist in nearly every aspect of LCS; our parents volunteer in the classroom, on the play yard, in the Edible Schoolyard garden, and during many of our enrichment classes. We have parent volunteers leading committees such as Office Support, Welcome Committee, World’s Fair, Spring Boogie and numerous other Community events, often in partnership with members of the teaching and administrative staff. We encourage all families to explore ways to bring their talents and interests to benefit the LCS program.
Along with volunteering, throughout the year, we hold a wide variety of community events that bring our families together. One of our larger events is the World’s Fair, where the cultures and traditions of over 20 nationalities are displayed in booths designed and run by our students and families. We also have special on-campus visit days, where families can come and see projects their children have been working on, such as “Pencil City,” where students created an entire city out of pencils. Below are a few more of the ways that we come together as a community, both on-campus and off-campus:
- Town Hall
All families at LCS are encouraged to attend our monthly Town Hall meetings, where issues and updates affecting the school are reviewed and discussed, and community members have time to share the experiences of watching our children grow and learn. - Morning Sing
All of our families are invited to our weekly Morning Sing. Once a week, the entire student population comes together and shares the songs they’ve been learning in music class. It’s a wonderful opportunity to spend time on the campus, share in your child’s day, and hear updates from our Principal - Park Playdates
Every summer all new families are invited to several "Playdates in the Park," as a way to meet current LCS families and start to make friendships with other incoming families. We also have a Host family program where all new families are assigned a Host familiy to aid in their transition into LCS.
