Alison Cole-Kelly

Clinical Social Work Supervisor, Student Affairs

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating college, I moved to New York City for graduate school and lived there for 10 years. Five years ago, my husband I moved to Los Angeles. Since then we've had two kids- our son Charlie is five years old and our daughter Amelia is two and half. I love cooking and playing sports with my kids and exploring all the incredible things this great city has to offer.

Where did you go to school and what was your major?
For my undergraduate degree, I went to the University of Wisconsin- Madison and majored in Sociology. And for my graduate degree, I went to Columbia University and obtained a Masters in Social Work.

What is your highest degree held?
I have a Masters in Social Work.

Why did you want to be a teacher/work in education?
Being a social worker is the greatest gift. It allows me to work directly with diverse people, hear their unique stories, witness growth, and play a small role in promoting their overall well being.

How long have you been teaching/working in education?
I have been working as a Social Worker for twelve years; however, I am new to the school setting. I've spent most of my career providing social work services in health care settings and teaching at the graduate level in schools of medicine and social work.

What is your favorite thing about LCS?
My favorite thing about LCS are my colleagues. No question. From the moment I arrived, I have felt wholly a part of this community. Every employee here has welcomed me with open arms and an eagerness to collaborate.

What was your favorite book when you were the age of your students?
I don't teach a class, so I don't work with a specific age group, but I remember reading Tuesdays With Morrie in high school and being really moved.
